FRIDAY

If you haven’t made it to XP yet, then get your ass over there – tonight post-rockers Glow Curve join Streets Kill Strange Animals and The Dyne. Jingweir, the uber-cool zine/website for all that is good in music, is hosting some the town’s biggest sounds in little packages, as thruotin, Low Bow, Pacalolo, and Michael Anthony take the stage a the cozy Zajia Lab. ACID Live, the elctro-jazz collective, who I’ve only heard good things about, will celebrate three years tonight at Yugong Yishan with a whole slew of special guests. For some solid rock, then Mao Livehouse is where you want to be – Residence A, Not There, New Perfume, and Po Shang Cun all will be providing the tunes. Close by at Temple resident ska outfit Toy Head will keep spirits high as funk outfit The New Vibe are joined by Rekjavictim at the Hot Cat Club and finally Elephant Fresh and The New Band over at the Blue Stream Bar. Power punk pop outfit The Stanleys, hailing from Australia are still in town – catch them tonight at the Old What? Bar. Finally, get your bluegrass fix at Dos Kolegas with The Randy Abel Stable and your blues fix at Jianghu Bar with Zhang Xiaosong and Peter Murchison.

SATURDAY

You know where everyone will be – come on – the Li Dong crew has been all over the place the past decade and it’s time for them to release their debut album – better yet – they’ve brought their friends along too – Hanggai, Buyi, and Lao Da. Expect big things. The Old What? Bar ain’t doing too bad – Perpetual Motion Machine, Trouble Trouble and more will bring the tunes. Beijing’s newest rap group Metro Clan is debuting their album over at Yugong Yishan – once again a good opportunity to get your toes wet in that genre. The Hot Cat Club is hosting a slew of feisty bands including The Bedstars, Discord, and Soju Legion, among others. Nearby by you can check out Mongolian indie folk group Ajinai at Jianghu Bar, stoner rockers Devil at the Crossroads and DUDE at Temple, or blues group DF & Skyscraper at VA Bar & Cafe. Lastly, if you’ll looking to get your metal on, then you can get your fix at Mao Livehouse with Logic Control, Penicillin, and others, or at 13 Club with Never Before, Raging Mob, Urethral Fracture, among others.

SUNDAY

I know XP has been opened all month now, but it’s time to celebrate, so join them in the afternoon at Dianmen for their party with guests Residence A and You Xi. If that’s not enough for ya, then get over to Mao Livehouse later for some quality metal with Multi-Ego, New Tank, From The Red, and Return The Truth. Lastly, for something on the soft side jazz singer Maxine Zhan and her friends can help at Jianghu Bar.
