Another late hungover edition of your weekly smackdown of music and events to keep you occupied. Debuts, visiting bands, experimental theatre, and then some it’s a jam packed weekend so do me a favor and get out there already.

Friday September 25th

One of China’s most sought after rappers, j-fever, whose offbeat, soulful, bubbly brand of hip hop has won lite up the hip hop scene brings forth his latest, Color Blind, a collaboration with LA-based producer Soulspeak. Expect a experience like none other as the duo promises an ‘experimental theatre’ vibe for their Yugong Yishan show.  Veteran electronica outfit Supermarket, one of Modern Sky’s first bands, return with their latest tripped out electronica journey at none other than the labels new digs, ModernSky Lab. Holland street punks Blok 1A bring the fire and fury to School alongside some of our own street ragers including Gum Bleed, Shochu Legion, and DCrash. On the eve of their Autumn festival tour, Beijing’s legendary purveyors of alt-country, blues, honky tonk and rock, The Randy Abel Stable return to DDC to release their second offering of lick-laden and lovelorn recordings, Lonely to Lonesome! Kyoto post rock outfit nim brings the emotions and then some to Mao Livehouse.

Saturday September 26th

After a long wait, Chengdu rock band Stolen has finally release their stellar debut record Loop via Beijing indie label D Force Records – expect some lush post punk that puts to shame most Beijing artists over at Yugong Yishan. For this edition of the Converse Rubber Tracks series at School Bar, pop punk takes over! Chinese punk legends Recycle are joined by long-time pop punk outfits Larry\’s Pizza and Finger Family. Four members from four cities and multiple nations converge to create instrumental rock ensemble that kicks all sorts of unholy ass. Post rock veterans The Grinding Ear release their debut, The Raining Universe, at DDC with the help of up and comers SNSOS. Pillow fight!!!!!! Mao Livehouse gets down and fluffy for their latest pillow fight series with musical help from hard rockers Logic Control, SAW, and Tarot Saint. European indie outfit Club 8 return to China to perform at Modernsky Lab. The MIJI Concert Series is back at Meridian Space, for another experimental music performance featuring Jun-Y, Wang Ziheng; as well as Liu Xinyu and Yan Yulong.

Sunday September 27th

Pop rock up and comers, Next Door Band kick off their national tour at Mao Livehouse. Folk rock debut from Heqi at Yugong Yishan. Head to School Bar on this Sunday afternoon for a beer and the musings of a host of extremely talented indie-rock and indie-folk artists including Cui Longyang, Momo Tiankong, Lei Xiaoshi, and XiXi. Acoustic indie pop tunes from Berlin tonight at DDC with Sir Simon as well as Rolf Zielke + Jan Klewitz .
