Birthdays, releases, and just plain ol’ summer fun — it’s a buyer’s market this weekend. You’d be a fool not to throw down. Here\’s your weekend update….
FRIDAY JULY 24th
Everyone’s favorite skeeze balls the Bedstars roll out the red carpet for their long awaited debut release at their home base, School, along with help from Chinese Modern Guys and Click #15, the new funk rock outfit from Ricky Sixx. Expect said red carpet to be douched in vomit and other bodily fluids by night’s end. Meanwhile, birthday celebrations are in order over at Temple and DDC —- at the 206 Gulou Dong Daijie residence it’s a rock hard night of rocking with Steely Heart, Pacalolo, Death Narcissists, and Lonely Leary; over at Meishuguan Hutong indie pop loverboy Kulu Liang gives a special showcase. Cool down with a jam packed evening of tunes at Mao Livehouse as Residence A, 16 mins, Larry’s Pizza, Steely Heart, and Candy Monster take stage. One of the top blues rock bands in China, Megazang bring it at the ever-cozy Jianghu Bar. Up and coming folk singer-songwriter xSusu performs at the Snail Hostel.
SATURDAY JULY 25th
Live Beijing Music teams up with his on-again, off-again ball-and-chain, Temple, for their final birthday throwdown this week and we’ve cooked up quite the concoction with a riotous evening of rock and roll featuring traditional Chinese rock revisionists Perpetual Motion Machine, up and coming (and catchy as all hell) indie rock outfit The Eat, and melodic Shenzhen indie rock trope Pokemon Dad. So kick back, down a few, and let’s give Temple a birthday bash to remember.Get down with DDC’s first carnival – a mega-sized birthday bash featuring food, photo exhibitions, and of course, the most riotous music this side of town including sets from Li Dong, The Harridans, Djang San, SuZixu & The Paramecia, MC Dawei, and Li Gaoyang. Pace yourself for this monster. Russian shoegazers noise rockers Neverending Winter and C.Y.K bring their A-game to School as a part of their China nationwide tour. Fuzzed out guitars, layers of sound – feeling the love yet? Genre-hopping, satirical cross talking folk rock outfit Slap go big over at Shuangjing’s Mako Livehouse.
