Friday October 23rd
BEME gets technical tonight with an experimental electronic showcase by fRUITYSHOP, where guest of honor, avant grade artist Bob Ostertag presents his 1991 piece Sooner or Later which is composed from a recording of a young boy burying his father in El Salvador. Whoa. Support from Liquid Palace – the audio visual matrimony of Mengqi and Silvernuz, as well as Hong Qile alongside VJ Maomao Weng. Meanwhile, over at Mao Livehouse, new Modern Sky highlights, new wave punks The Big Wave present their latest MV. Expect a packed house at DDC as Inner Mongolian rock favorites Horse Radio look to tear down the house. Over yonder, School does what it does best – get rocking and rolling – with Icy Whiskey, Secret Club and Longfusi taking the stage. Over at Temple, it\’s a tribute to Nirvana as hard rock instrumentalists Nakoma join Mechanical Animals for some heart shaped loving.
Saturday October 24th
BEME closes out with a stacked lineup to the new swanky ModernSky Lab – the early \’experimental\’ section will involve a threesome improv set with Soviet Pop, Vavabond, and Bob Ostertag (who’ll also do a solo set for you purists out there), as well as sets from Alpine Decline + Charm, and me:mo. Act two brings the beats with nara, JFI, Menghan, and headliner Shao (formerly Dead J) get dark and groovy. Local music promoters Dr. Smartass celebrate one year of free gigs with a hella lineup at School that features Gum Bleed, Luv Plastik, Nakoma, Guiguisuisui, and Final Impact. Another celebrations gets underway down at Temple as WHAI blows out the candles for three years of chewing bubble gum and kicking ass. Acclaimed Japanese hip hop producer Nomak gets down and dirty at Mao Livehouse. The ever wonderful folk artist Tong Yan performs at Snail Club while the Hot Club of Beijing spew their gypsy jazz all over DDC.
Sunday October 25th
White + get intimate with the tourists at the ever cozy 69 Cafe. Things get hostile at School with The Sleepwalkers, Eryi, Xuewang, and Daydreamer. Mao Livehouse celebrate all the last rockers out there including Hang on the Box, New Cake, Candy Monster, Hitomi, and Jin Long. Japanese folk artist Suzuki Tsunekichi swings by DDC for some tunes. Finally, word out to the first ever Chillfest – a late afternoon into evening event at Jainghu Bar where folks can trade clothes and items, eat some MoxiMoxi and listen to sweet tunes including those of Dan Taylor, Djang San, Su, and more.
