Dr. Smartass rounds up a motely crew of rock hard outfits ready to blast off into the weekend at School including the ever dependable The Flyx, grunge revisonists Jajatone, hardcore outfit Return the Truth, and math rock up and comers Rhonda. White + in Gongti? Say it ain’t so! The ‘Be Stupid’ crew get crazy up in Uper+’s rooftop terrace some wilding out with sets from livelectronica outfit white + and one half of FM3. Intrigued as all hell. Albanian American singer-songwriter and record producer JMSN brings his alt R&B infused hip hop stylings to DDC for a evening of eccentric fun. Hip hop duo Dirty Twinz bring their latest release to Mako Livehouse in Shuangjing. Visual kei band Kiryu gets its freak on at Mao Livehouse — one day, I’m really gonna have to get to the bottom of this visual kei nonsense. One day. Head on down to Snail Hostel for Chinese folk singer-songwriter, Haozi , whose music branches out into various genres.Old times blues with Zhenren at the Moroccan powerhouse food and drink stop Caravan.
SATURDAY AUGUST 8th
Show some skin at the second Rock n\’ Roll Hutong Bikini Party at School – rock and roll offerings courtesy of Hot Wave, Miss Mix, Baxian Fandian and Daocier, with DJ tunes from DJ Guzz. Entrance is free with bikini and ladies get housed for free. Shitshow indeed. Power pop your way through the night with this eclectic mix of indie rock, Britpop and more as Residence A, Black Bohe, Finger Family, Relativity, and Next Door bring the youngins to Mao Livehouse for a lil summer action.Folk blues snger-songwriter Liu Donghong & Sand hits up Snail hostel. Chen Xi (of Snapline) bring his solo electro-ukulele side project Late Troubles to the cozy 69 Café. Gulou hot spot Temple teams up with Fiege and Kappa (the ones always doing those vintage fairs) for a night of hot blooded rock and fun as Pacalolo and Disaster Chat take the stage.
SUNDAY AUGUST 9th
The Buddha Jiya Orchestra present their new album at Mako Livehouse, which fuses blues, funk, folk, Buddhist chants and more, along with special guests Zang Tian Shuo, Battle Flag and Mary. American pop-country sensation Jackson Wells brings his mix of pop and country to China’s Yugong Yishan. Folk-rock act Chengyu from Xinxiang in Henan province, bring their folk rock pop stylings to School as apart of their nationwide tour.
