From 2013 when The KutiMangoes was formed, things have happened quickly for the 6-piece afro-beat/souljazz band based in Copenhagen. Starting with a unique collaboration with Burkina Faso vocalist Patrick Kabré, their signing with legendary German funk/afro-beat label Tramp Records and subsequent debut release Afro-Fire received international critical acclaim and radio airplay on BBC, Bayerische Rundfunk (DE), FM4 (AU), Radio X (DE), WNYU Radio (US) and many others. In between receiving 4 Danish Grammy nominations and winning \”Best World Music Album\”, The KutiMangoes have toured extensively in Europe as well as Western Africa and Israel.
The KutiMangoes take their musical inspiration from Fela Kuti, Charles Mingus as well as traditional African music. Three brass players, two drummers and a man at the keys skillfully switch between the instruments in what artistic director of Burkina Faso\’s \”Jazz à Ouaga\” festival Abdullaye Diallo termed \”a rarely succesful unification of African and European music.
