New Releases: Little Punk, Xina Electronica, jfever x Soulspeak, The Yours

Alright alright, I’m frantic packing up my things and finishing errands before I bitch out of Beijing for the Christmas holidays but I couldn’t resist throwing out some new releases before I’m sky high. So let’s take a quick garner at some newbies including spilt 7’’s from Little Punk and The Yours, a collaboration between Beijing hip hop artist jfever and Soulspeak, and Xina Eletronica, a compilation album featuring some of the scene’s most interesting electronic artists.

I swear Genjing Records likes to sneak out records every so often – a couple weeks back everything was looking all nice and in place and then bam, next thing you know, there’s these seven inch vinyls nice and snug in the record store’s online catalogue. What gives! Who cares when it\’s new tracks from two killer artists – first there’s the Public Eye 7’’ from Hong Kong indie noise rockers The Yours, who impressed a hell of a lot of people this year including myself. The song in question is ‘Purple’ which is a fuzzed up shoe gazing little single that leaves you wanting more. Next up, Little Punk and her single ‘Traveling Man’, which is all kinds of awesome – a melancholic bittersweet dish of and youthful nostalgic and the big ‘what if?’. Really wish Little Punk would put out more stuff – one of the scene’s more singular voices.

Here’s one out of left field – Lisboa, Portugal based label Labareda has gathered one some of the electronica scene’s most offbeat and intriguing artists for a compilation entitled Xina Eletronica. Featuring new tracks from Meng Qi, Zebre-Rogue, Fløøød, Noise&Noise, DJ Doggy, American Booze, Torturing Nurse, and thruoutin it’s a grab bag of diverse sounds that’s a great entryway into China’s blooming electronic scene, which is slowly digging its way into my beat. Especially digging the cut from thruoutin – dude can write a hell of a hook. Grab it for frees over here.

Jfever, infamous for once releasing an album via imported beer bottle , is back at it again with his latest, a comic book/concept album entitled It Must Be An Explosion?. Produced by LA based Chinese American producer Soulspeak, known for his old school stylings, and co-authored by Shenzhen cartoonist Dick Ng, it’s a slice of retro hip-hop swagger about, yup, space travel. Yeahhhhh. Gonna have to get my hands on this one. You can preview the album over at jfever’s douban page or purchase it on taobao.
