MV Weekly: Kafe Hu, Queen Sea Big Shark, Pax Bai

While I’ll be busy catching some rays down south by the time this posts, the lot of you might be looking to dip out of your world of pain and misery for a moment. And what better way than to have your own private viewing session with some of the latest hottest music videos to hit China cyberspace including fresh cuts from Chengdu rapper Kafe Hu, Beijing indie rock stars Queen Sea Big Shark, and pop punk outfit Pax Bai.

Heading to Chengdu we have a look at a little-known underground rapper Kafe Hu who’s been slowly building quite the reputation with his brassy brand of hip hop that feels vital and retro all at once. His MV for his latest single ‘Sorry_我不在,你也不在‘ is a beautifully edited black and white heart broken apology to a love lost. A fever dream of blurred memories – it perfectly encaptures the way the mind rushes throw memories, images, regrets, and ‘what ifs’ all set to a jazzy throwback.

One of Beijing’s leading indie rock outfit, Queen Sea Big Shark, are in the final stages of their much anticipated album, their third, to be released in early 2016. The band threw a sold-out two-day party at Modern Sky Lab at the end of the year and in the process threw together this sublime holiday take on their hit single ‘Bling Bling Bling’. Love it – between the madcap costumes straight out of ‘the worst of the worst’ Christmas parties, and an array of Xmas lights, this could easily become standard holiday viewing for all QSBS fans out there.

We’ve got one more Converse studio session – this time the Chendgu pop punk band Pax Bai, are over in sunny LA at the Sunset Sound where Trash Talk’s Lee Spielman (who performed here in Beijing last year) gives the boys the studio runaround as well as a tour of the colorful city, including of course burritos.
