First weekend update in some time — miss it, huh? Better yet, we’ve updated the events calendar with for the next month – so feel free to scroll away to plan the next few weekends. But we’re here to talk about this jam-packed weekend, so let’s get into it.

FRIDAY September 18th

A heavy one-two punch combo of rock that hits loud and hard at the ever gracious DDC — instrumental prog post rockers Nakoma play their first gig since summer and they’re joined by post rock wunderkids Glow Curve, who have been working on new material. New Zealand dance-punk outfit Shocking Pinks bring their foot tapping retro fitting reverb filled washed out rock to School alongside female-led SUBS, and post punk Lonely Leary, one of the year’s great finds. Neofolk and martial industrial group out of Stockholm, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio bring their cruel beautiful world to Yugong Yishan with help from Beijing’s own neofolk outfit Bloody Woods. Apocalyptic folk for the win! Crowd faves Djang San bring their riotous East meets West brand of rock and roll to the always reliable Temple for some mischief to accompany the release of the band’s latest album. A solid gathering of punks of different ilk at Mao Livehouse including the ever feisty Diders, skateboard punks Larry’s Pizza, 0190, and FME.

SATURDAY September 19th

8-bit zombified one man blues punk dude Guiguisuisui bring his righteous debut album to the masses at DDC with the help of friends including Death Narcissists, Gum Bleed, and Baxian Chophouse. Down the street, Yugong Yishan parties it up for their birthday with the help of Maybe Mars – solid offering from Carsick Cars, WHAI, up and comers The Eat, and some concoction of Pet Conspiracy, including Huzi, Edo, and Diva Li. Speaking of anniversaries, local promoters D.O.G celebrate three years of kick ass shows with a, you guessed it, a kick ass show at School featuring Shanghai’s latest punk gut punch Dirty Fingers, School’s own Dr. Liu & the Human Centipede, as well as The Diders, Laisee, Secret Club, and Hotwave. Neo Party brings the party to Mao Livehouse with a fine assortment of up and comers including Fake Weed, Rhonda, Lilium, Nubeer, and Macondo. Seippelable, run by local musician thruoutin, throw their first event at the ever cool fRUITYSHOP – it’s a family affair with US ambient electronic artist Michele Rose Seippel performing, as well as Liang & Stephanie, JDK-X and Mao Weng Weng. Expect some tripped out visuals alongside some lush otherworldly electronica. It’s grunge night at Temple with up and comers grunge metal outfit Da Lei Yin, hard rockers V89, and punk grungers Pork. Come and soak it up.

SUNDAY September 20th

Synth-smeared steely post punk rockers Me Too celebrate the release of their latest 7’ record from Genjing at School with support from Death Narcissists and Boiled Hippo. Red Bull teams up with Yugong Yishan to present a variety of talent expected to hit it big – on stage tonight is pop rockers Magic Mama. Get heavy with these metal, emo, and carnage groups at Mao Livehouse including Sweet Escape, Nower, Silent Elegy, and Abnormal Infected.
