Weekend Update 06.05-08.05

If you haven’t noticed, summer is just around the corner boys and girls. Tis the season for eating gratuitous amounts of chuan’er on a stoop, for letting that stomach hang out low and proud, for indulging yourself with every rooftop opening across town with only the hippest kids in Gulou. Or as I let to do, lose a few kilos, sweating it out at gig after gig. No better way to get to fit into that speedo come July. Friday May 6^th

Ouch, Hell City, Discord at School Bar

It’s a punk’s fever dream come to light as two of the scene’s most beloved and oldest acts are brought back to life for the special occasion – long standing pure ska punk outfit, Ouch!, make their annual appearance, alongside the once-extinct old school street punks Discord and mohawked favorites Hell City. All for free at rock and roll ground zero. FREE

 

The Power Powder, Candy Monster, Self Portrait at Yugong Yishan

Roots rock trio The Power Powder who invoke the classic rock days of the 70s, present their debut Another Self, at YGYS alongside friends. Americana filtered through Beijing with plenty of Patti Smith-esque swagger and musicianship. 80 RMB

 

LMT Connection (USA) at DDC

True masters of their craft, funk maestros LMT Connection celebrate its frontman Leroy’s 70^th birthday with a bash at DDC – these cats are legends so best grab your seat early. 100 RMB

The Sound Sculpture at fRUITYSPACE

The Sound Sculpture, a crew of musician misfits who improvise soundtracks over various films, hit up the cozy café for an outing of ambient music laced with psychedelic vibes as they score live arguably the greatest documentary there was Man With A Movie Camera. 40 RMB

 

Gan Jian, Hong Qile, Mao Wengweng, Yuan Ren, Yue Xuan at Aotu Studio

Pixel Echo, an electronic multimedia series highlighting some of the underground electronic scene’s more intriguing indivisuals sets up shop at hair salon/venue (now with rooftop!)
