While there are plenty of stellar shows going down this weekend, I demand each of you go out and pay your respects to XP, who will be closing up shop for good by Sunday night. The place has been a safe haven for Beijing’s music. Experimental, punk, indie, electronica – no matter the sound – the venue welcomed it. So without further a due, here’s your weekend update.

FRIDAY JULY 3rd

The Eat, Lonely Leary, Elenore, Luv Plastik, SNSOS, Solaris at XP

Part 1 of XP\’s closing weekend finds new hot promoters Cold Neo, putting together a solid showcase of some of Beijing\’s up and coming rock\’n\’roll talent, including indie rockers The Eat and Elenore, post punk groovers Lonely Leary, post rockers She Never Sings Our Songs, psych gazers Solaris, and spicy garage punk duo Luv Plastik. 50 RMB

Long standing alternative rock outfit 16 mins have been hard at work on their debut album and after a lengthy recording session in Germany, the band is ready to unleash their sultry, atmospheric album to the masses. 80 RMB

Underground house music party promoters Be Stupid expand their reach to new Gongti club Uper, bringing an eclectic mix of DJs, live bands, MCs, and visual artists and they’ve got quite the catch – a live set from White+, with the new addition of Bigger Bang drummer Linan on second electronic percussion, alongside Wang Xu (The Gar) and Zhang Shouwang (Carsick Cars). Maybe Mars brings out their best for part 2 of XP’s closing festivites. Hong Kong indie noise rockers The Yours bring back the 90s, while The Fuzz get down with Manchester post punk – as well as local heavy weight (and now trio) white + and Streets Kill Strange Animals, one of the scene’s most underrated bands. Easy Shen, born in 1984, is the folk signer of Taiwanese band Easy.
