School Bar is throwing a bash for the ages as it closes out the Year of the Sheep with it\’s final event before the Chinese New Year!
Set to take place and make it\’s debut are the first edition of the now annual School Bar Awards! Every year at about this time, there has been a running joke between School Bar owners Liu Fei and Liu Hao – what was the best show of the past year, best band, biggest disaster, best promotions group, etc. After years of jokes, this year the awards become a reality! Sure to be many laughs and surprises, don\’t miss out!
Additionally, on this evening School Bar Version 3.0 makes its debut! When School Bar first opened, it was a place for the bar\’s owners and it\’s friends to hang out at during the week, and then on the weekend DJs came in and held events – almost like Dada before Dada existed in Gulou. In December 2012, School switched everything up and became the live music hot bed that you know today. The school Bar you know and love will not be leaving you, and instead, expanding. Over the past number of weeks the former restaurant directly to the west of School has been under renovation, received a complete redesign, and will now be connected to the current School Bar. School Bar Version 3.0 doubles the size of School, adds an additional bar, will offer new beers on tap and drinks, serve food items, and simply put give you more space to enjoy your music and alcohol!
Finally, what type of party would it be without the bands. Set to play are 5 of the bands that lit up the School Bar stage perhaps more so than any others throughout 2015!
The Diders had a phenomenal year touring throughout China and possess perhaps the most exciting stage show in Beijing. Gate to Otherside licked their chops at School Bar before signing with Maybe Mars and recording their debut album last month with Ricky from the Brian Jamestown Massacre. Heat Mark traveled to New York this fall to record at the Converse Rubber Tracks studio, and won over audiences throughout China by touring and playing music festivals. The Hotline burst onto the scene this year with their brand of electro-rock n\’ roll and are sure to continue to make more noise during the Year of the Monkey. Finally, female-fronted garage rockers The Twenties have won over fans, fellow-musicians, and critics alike with their catchy tunes and constant gigging over the past calendar year – a band to keep your eyes on in 2016.
