Dream Can, Naohai, The Psyders

Now, even though XP has closed, Maybe Mars\’s mission to dig up and support China\’s youngest, freshest music continues unabated. On that note, we\’re launching a new show series, \”Independent China in Stereo\”. Each month we\’ll invite young bands from a different city in China to come to Beijing for a special performance, give them a stage and a space to showcase their work to a bigger audience, and also give Beijing\’s music fans a glimpse of what\’s happening in underground cultural circles around the country. The net effect will be to mix youth energy and ideas from the capital with outside pockets, to create a bigger picture of the emergent indie scene on a national scale.
The first \”Independent China in Stereo\” showcase throws the spotlight on Shanghai, the southern metropolis whose concentration of indie musicians is second only to Beijing. Shanghai\’s rock\’n\’roll underground is teeming with many great, unknown bands. We\’ll meet a few of them in Beijing on November 14, and together assemble a radical new idea of the future sound of young China.
