FRIDAY

Support the Ningxia men (and women) tonight as they step into a new arena, Yugong Yishan, to release their compilation album ‘Made in Ningxia’ – on hand will be the ever-dynamic stylings of Buyi, Li Dong, Skarving, Fan Zouyang, and Xu Dan – lots of smiles, lots of smiles. The JUE train keeps on chugging along – tonight one of Taiwan’s most famous rock bands, Matzka, will be getting down at Mako Livehouse to show us what the fuss is all about – a mix of reggae, blues, R&B, rap, and of course rock n’ roll – their sound is all over the place, but word is they tear it up on stage. The W.O.A Metal Battle begins tonight over in Wudaoku at 13 Club where Evil ThornBlack LakeHeavy DutySpirit Trance, and Skeletal666 will butt heads. A trio of fun, foot-stomping, hooligan-driven bands – Rolling Bowling, Misandao, and Early Bus – take the small stage at School to help you to brush off that workweek and claim the weekend. For something a little heavier, head to Mao Livehouse to hear hardcore metalheads Logic Control release their latest album along with the support of Forced Posse and Guinea Pig. For those taking it easy, Mongolian folkster Ajinai gives a special solo performance at the intimate Zajia Lab while Kazakh rocker Jurat hits up the Hot Cat Club and Wang Juan graces Jianghu Bar with her pristine voice. XP continues to expand its lineup with the 80’s loving rock group Los Crasher along with E.T.O.S. The doppelgangers themselves The Beijing Beatles will don two set of costumes tonight at Dos Kolegas for a huge Beatle-mania party. SATURDAY

The Amazing Insurance Salesmen are celebrating three years on the scene with a hoedown at Dos Kolegas – all bets are off people, expect jam sessions lasting into the wee hours, solos galore, and Jean Sebastian getting on his knees at some point during the night – lots of fun to go around on this one. JUE’s guest for the night is critically-acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Jeff Lang whose got a knack for the Celtic blues and raw guitar work – expect Yugong Yishan to be packed – The Randy Abel Stable support. A huge night of metal at Tango flew under the radar – but oh so good – with Ego Fall, Four Five, CMCB, Crack, Ethereal Wings, A.J.K, and more hitting the big stage for a night full of moshing, head banging, and straight up shredding. Be true to yourself and give in to the shamless rock, emo, blues, and punk that’ll be taking over Mao Livehouse in the form of Twinkle Star, PB33, Strange July, DF & Skyscraper, and Gebituan. Or rock with local beijingerens Chiren and Xuan Nan down at Mako Livehouse. Dirft off in the psychedlic and ambient noises of DICE and Cloud Choir at XP. Not enough, then the dusty folk of Lao Liu & Sand at Blue Stream Bar or ballads courtesy of Li Yan at Hot Cat Club might just do it.

SUNDAY

No point in giving up now. JUE and Yugong Yishan are going all out for their afternoon ‘Emerging Young Artists’ where Snapline, Mr. Graceless, Residence A, and DICE prep to show everyone what the hype is about. A gentler afternoon might find you at School where Zhou Wang and Chen Hao grace the Wudaoying joint with an acoustic special. Or pick your favorite head banger at 13 Club where Purple Hell, Silent Resentment, Jacky Danny, Soulliberty, Temple, and Bloom In The Dark go head to head for the W.O.A Metal Battle. Or get lost with improvised music from an impressive lineup featuring guqin master Wu Na and classically trained violinist/oscilloscope maestro Gogoj at Zajia Lab. Finally, the original Beijing bluesmen Woodie Alan is back in town, performing together with his original members as well as featured guests for a reunion show at Jianghu Bar that will surely be a nostalgic event.
