Weekend Update

Hey everyone, as I’m furiously trying to get up footage from Strawberry up all week long, it might be some time to take a little steam off and get out of the city for a change. But not before checking out the ‘new D-22’, called XP (Xiaoping) located on Dianmen – they’ve been putting on shows all week now so it might to time to check out the new digs. Beyond that there is plenty of other music to go around and feast upon. Here’s what’s in store…

Bob Marley Tribute Night!!! Yugong Yishan might take the cake on this one tonight as they have none other than Long Shen Dao taking the side alongside Mitabe for a night of regaee-infused fun. Hot Cat Club is also paying their respects with an assortment of different bands of different sounds bringing the heat including The Bedstars, Liu Yusi, MC David, Twinkle Star, and Rolling Bowling. My new fix Skip Skip Ben Ben takes stage at the newly opened XP on Dianmen, alongside Chaos, and Alpine Decline. The Junglemico Project, basically a live drum n’ bass show, celebrate one year this weekend starting at Dos Kolegas tonight. Over at the Blue Stream Bar catch some mellow soft-spoken tunes with Arrows Made of Desire and Wang Wei. Mao Livehouse moans as well, tonight paying tribute to Zhang Ju, of Tang Dynasty, with some help from Longway Band, Nerve Resistance, and Black Diamond, among others. Temple keeps up the high spirits with The Beijing Beatles, as well as The Old What? Bar with the O.N.E Band. Finally catch Taiwanese folk pop band Echo at Jianghu Bar or head to the Wu for some mischief courtesy of rockers Viva la Vanci at 13 Club.

A relatively mellow day – no better to complement that than with some lovely music from Mademoiselle et son Orchestre, Rolling Bowling, and The Beijing Beatles at Dos Kolegas. Or at Temple where The Junglemico Project continues to celebrate. Wanna be charitable all the while moshing to your hearts’ delight – Mao Livehouse has you cover as they present the 2nd Annual CCCF Charity Show with S.A.W, Frosty Eve, A.J.K, and Longway Band. Head over to Yugong Yishan to see The Face and Chen Jin who wanna bring back memories of the Rock Party of old time. The Old What? Bar has some scrappy players tonight – Trouble Trouble, Pork, Platanus, and Pacalolo play. You can also catch Pacalolo at VA Bar with Christmas. Nearby at the Hot Cat Club, see hard rockers Cactus perform alongside local band Zakka. If you’ll looking for something a little mellower, then head to the Blue Stream Bar to see emo group Billow’s Fairy Tale, or to Zajia Lab to see Kang Mao’s folk group Bye Bye And Thanks For All The Fish. This might be your last chance to catch The Dong Chorus at Mako Livehouse. And lastly, head to Jianghu Bar to see Latin jazz group Los Amigos spice things up.

Swiss electro-rockers Syndrome WPW hit Beijing – see them at the Hot Cat Club with Fuzzy Mood and Wanderlust. Join XP for their first in a series of afternoon concerts with some of the cities’ most prolific experimental improv artists – today Li Jianhong, Vavabond, and Li Zenghui. The Blue Stream Bar is hosting a psychedelic folk night with Xiao Wang Bao and more. And last, take it breezy with one of the city’s hottest jazz bands – the Nathaniel Gao Quartet at Jianghu Bar.
