Deadly Cradle Death take no prisoners

FRIDAY

Kicking off Dos Kolegas’s 7-Year Anniversary tonight is some of Ningxia’s best, Buyi, Nucleus, and Skarving who will be joined by hard rockers Bad Mamasan and Devils at the Crossroads. Check out awe-inspiring Tibetan songstress Yunggiema at Yugong Yishan along with guests Namu and Wang Lei. Explore electronic music like you’ve never have at XP who are showcasing XJBN, Joker Dog, and the warlocks themselves Deadly Cradle Death (you can read up on an interesting discussion of electronic/experimental music here, courtesy of Pangbianr). To see more of Beijing’s noisy experimental rockers head down to the Old What? Bar for Paper Tiger Jamboree, You Xi, Mr. Ray, Fat City, and Fu Yun. If you’re a true Buyi fanboy then you’ll bev seeing them at Shangjing before they head up to Liangmaqiao as they are participating in Mako Livehouse’s folk night who are also bringing out Gangzi, Simple Valentine, Meng Zhi, and Dog Hair (from Taiwan). In Gulou there is plenty to catch as well. Mao Livehouse is gathering some of the best and heaviest bands out there to launch Diamond Productions – expect to see Unregenerate Blood, Suffocated, A.J.K, and Ethereal Wings, among others. At Jianghu Bar will host Slap, the funk rockers whose Tian Xiao also happens to run the joint. The Blue Stream Bar will host a variety of folk artists tonight including Platanus, Chen Chenghui, and Liu 45. Close by at the Zajia Lab, pipa player Min Xiao-Fen will be joined by the Third Angle Ensemble. For something more laid-back head to Temple for reggae band Shaddai, or to VA Bar for Mademoiselle et son Orchestra, to the Hot Cat Club where the Red Pirates and VHR will be rocking out hard, and lastly, to Modernista for Mama Funker.

WHAI will help celebrate 2K’s BDay

SATURDAY

Dos Kolegas hasn’t stopped celebrating yet – so get there already for DH & The Chinese Hellcats, WHAI, Wu & The Side Effects, and Helen Feng. The other big event of the day is the INTRO Festival which brings together some of the city’s and world’s top electronic artists for a day and night full of dancing, raving, and what have you (head over to CityWeekend for their write-up). Two intriguing acoustic sets going on tonight – Chinese regagge band Long Shen Dao will provide some lively tao-infused melodies at Temple, while staple punkers Brain Failure take it down a notch at the Blue Stream Bar. There’s a solid free show happening over at the Hot Cat Club with Fuzzy Mood, Reloadz, and Jia Hui Zhen (who I’m digging thanks to Jingweir’s radio podcast). Yugong Yishan is celebrating African Day with One Drop and a slew of DJ’s courtresy of Meiwenti Sounds. Get some raw and heavy punk over at the Old What? Bar with Discord, Trash Cat, and Shochu Legion. Lastly, two shows going on at Mako Livehouse – first in the afternoon with Zhang Tie and Lin Nan and their mellow pop tunes, and later in the evening with multi-talented folk singer-songwriter Zhang Weiwei who is debuting his album,
