Weekend Update

Been punishing myself all week with work to make back some dough, so it’s been a slow week here for sure – but if it ain’t the weekend already – so all that suffering – don’t matter no more. Might as well turn off the computer at this point cause I’ll gonna be basking in what the Big Red is offering up for sacrifice these next few days. May the Gods be pleased…

FRIDAY

Well if you haven’t heard the foolish old man moving a mountain, Yugong Yishan, is turning 8 tonight and they’re throwing quite the bash – Exit A, Pet Conspiracy, Re-TROS, Carsick Cars along with some of the city’s most worthy DJs – yeah, hard to say no to that. Though, The Nine Treasures, who fuse ethnic Mongolian tunes with some heavy sounds (not unlike some other Mongolians bands) will be treating audiences to an intimate show at Zajia Lab. If you’re looking for something with more electro-spunk then get over to XP where Cloud Choir and Jia Huizhen take the stage tease your eardrums. Swedish heavy metal band Dynazty will be getting their ways bopping over at Mao Livehouse. Indie quartet Dwaas are back on the circuit and they’re bringing their autumn sound to the Old What? Bar, along with grunge for lifers Pork. The Amazing Insurance Salesmen are looking to take on Dos Kolegas single-handedly – expect them to jam out and wave their freak flag. Saucy fronted The Incisors tee off against electro-minded Nostalgia For The Stars at the Hot Cat Club. Over in Wudaoku at 13 Club, Headline News release their EP tonight with some help from their loud friends. And for some blues with some groove check out regulars DF & Skyscraper at VA Bar & Café . Rudra’s Sage will take on the Beatles at 69 Café. Lastly, Erbai, Falseman, and more bring folk to the Blue Stream Bar.

SATURDAY

So after finally getting to see The Gar last month, it’s safe to say that I’m a fan – they’ve got a far reaching sound that hits all the right notes in my book – they’re releasing their newest EP “The City of Blazing Identity” at Yugong Yishan – so good they don’t even need a supporting band (really?). Those rowdy fire breathing Devils at the Crossroads are back at it again – catch them where they’re obligated to play once a month – everyone’s fav Temple.  Mr. Freeman and Lin Nan continue the laid back theme of Blue Stream Bar – might be one’s last chance to enjoy that patio. Mako Livehouse is bringing back Guangzhou folksters Toy Captain for a second time. Dwaas continue their run through town, tonight appearing at the Hot Cat Club. Feel young (and possibly not as music-inclinced) again at Mao Livehouse with some young meat including Dream Garden, Neverland, Jellyfish and more. Get on your black for the Old What? Bar as A.J.K. and Hell City gets things rocking in style. If you’re looking to get even heavier well there’s always 13 Club where Beetle Bastion, Los Crasher, First Medal and more will be getting the crowd going. Taiwanese folk artist La Petite Nurse, the latest from Mark Peng, will make an appearance at Jianghu Bar.

SUNDAY

Guitar China 12th Anniversary will be celebrating twelve years of trashing with some of the best at Yugong Yishan including Wen Lin, Chen Lei Yao Lin, Ji Yuan, and Song Yang– plus, it’s free, so imagine me turning that down. To ease out the weekend, chillax with Britpop group Time Capsule and Whistling Chambers over at Blue Stream Bar. Electronic artist Slanting Buck at 69 Café. Lastly, up and coming pop friendly rockers Out of Control are releasing their album tonight at a free show at Mao Livehouse.
