You know the drill….I bitch and moan about how there is too much goodness going around this weekend, you make wise decisions, and I start my own mobile bar outside of Temple. Wait, what? Yup, one of these weekends

FRIDAY

BEME (Beijing Electronic Music Encounter) kicks off tonight over at XP with Mu Xiaohu, Liu Yiwei, Nara, ZLOX, and Gan Jian – once again, a bonafide opportunity to check out the electronic and experimental scene here in Beijing. If you looking for more theatrics with your music, then you best get over to Yugong Yishan as electro rockers Pet Conspiracy release their latest record, “Noise From The Future”. The sleeper gig of the weekend might be at Mako Livehouse though as Glow Curve, petantonic, Bloody Woods, and Lilisay give the best of post-rock and folk. Ska and punk is alive and well at Mao Livehouse – catch long-running ska group from Japan, The Autocratics, along with Misandao and The K. Jianghu Bar continues to say its goodbyes (really dragging it out over there), tonight Mongolian group Ajinai takes the cozy stage. For some high kicks with your music, get over to Temple where Jacky Danny get rock hard. For more fun, hop on down to Blue Stream Bar where Pacalolo and Candy Monster keep things moving. Brit folk rockers Third Cortez continue to tour across town as they stop by Dos Kolegas along with CRTVTR. Zajia Lab keeps things simple and old school as blues group Smoking Barrels is joined by Liang Zi. Lastly, celebrate John Lennon’s birthday at VA Bar with cake, a movie, and a special performance by the doppelgangers themselves, The Beijing Beatles.

SATURDAY

BEME continues this Saturday at XP – as Dead J, White +, FM3, JFI, and Metwang take to the decks. But the talk of the town for sure is metal royalty Cannibal Corpse helping Painkiller celebrate its 12th year – they are joined by Impiety, Narakam Hyonblud, and Deathpact at Yugong Yishan – that’s a heavy dose of metal – better come prepared. Poetry slams, hip-hop stylings, and dance pop, a night at Dos Kolegas is where you’ll want to be as some of the world’s top modern poets Omar Musa, Luka Lesson, and Bohdan Piasecki are joined by local dance rockers Residence A for a night of wordy fun. A trifecta of rough, scrappy bands will take over Mao LivehouseDiscord, Rolling Bowling, and Gum Bleed. Get your ska step going over at Temple with Early Bus. For some jazzy action head over to Blue Stream Bar where Afghan/Canadian singer Kamila struts her stuff. Finally, acclaimed folk group Wild Fire stops by Mako Livehouse during their national tour.

SUNDAY

BEME comes to an end tonight at Zajia Lab with an ambient session with Hong Qile, Ponisonico, Shi Yang, Mulian, and Vantomb. Metal gets hot over at Mao Livehouse as a slew of talented loud bands make some noise including Nine Treasures, Tengger Cavalry, Tarot Saint, Life Test, and Nower. Blue Stream Bar keeps things going with first a blues performance in the afternoon with Mark Levine, and later that night with offbeat folk group Red alongside Cui Long Yang and more.
