Weekend Update

As typical in Beijing, when it rains it pours. Too many concerts, too little time – seriously we need to spread these shows out a bit. Being indecisive has always been my weak point – this is gonna be hell!

FRIDAY

Yippee, singles day! Find another single and take her out for some romancing \’live beijing music\’ style

The high school romantic in me is dying to see Wu Hongfei & Happy Avenue, and their eclectic folk-rock music. If you have a date, this is the place to go and impress (though it is being dubbed for \”songs for the lonely\”). She will be backed by Billow\’s Fairy Tale and Diamond at Yugong Yishan. Should be a whimsical show.

However, if your date likes to get her rock on, then look no further than D-22 (well that\’s pretty much the furthest you can go for a lot of us). Residence A, who just can\’t seem to be stopped, will be playing alongside Yes No Break, who impressed me last spring.

If you want your date to leave you for some hardcore rockers, then bring her to Tango, where bad boys Brain Failure will be playing with Convenience Store and DUDE.

Or if you wanna sweat it out with some comrades from Shanghai, head to Mao Livehouse with Toy Head, Magic Bus, Jungle Woods, and Prank

Finally, for you discjokerys and electronic lovers head to 2 Kolegas to see Jason Kahn and Yan Jun compose before your very eyes or to School where FakeLoveMusic continues is reign of electronic love with the Three Discoteers, with super awesome guest DJ Pei.

SATURDAY

2 Kolegas is putting on a hell of a show. Helen Feng\’s solo project Nova Heart will be playing. And if that wasn\’t enough Re-Tros will also be bringing their unique sound. And then finally there\’s the icing on top – Me Too and Candy Monster supporting, both bands who have done no wrong in my book.

Josh and the group at Pangbianr.com are hosting a rocking show at D-22, with Streets Kill Strange Animals, Mr. Ray, Reykjavitim, and \’fresh off the boat\’ expats Alpine Decline.

Punk rockers invade Mao Livehouse to welcome Gum Bleed back – accompanying bands are the always fun Rustic, Toy Head, Discord, and Larry\’s Pizza.

Waiting for the next Gia Wang, well punk chick band Union Bunny has been kicking up a storm the past month. Head to the Old What? Bar to see what the fuss is all about.

Mako Livehouse seems to finally be getting their act together with another great show, as folk rockers Low Wormwood bring their sound to Shuangjing.

Finally, Dead J will be releasing his newest album at Haze while Steve Bug, hailing from Germany, will be bring down the house at Lantern.

SUNDAY

Mao Livehouse is basking in the laid backness of Sunday, with a show that appeals to many – with acts like the great Mr. Freeman, Molicheng, Precipitation, Yongdongji and Taluo Shengtu playing.

D-22 continues their folk night this time with Blaque and Liu Yusi.

That pretty much covers it, be sure to check out beijinggigguide.com and beijingdaze.com for their picks and coverage of other shows playing around town.
