Upcoming: Wetware Douban Music Festival (5/18-5/21)

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Wetware Douban Music Festival will be (fingers crossed) unfolding next week and it really is a thing of beauty. As festivals like Strawberry, MIDI, and INTRO get pushed further and further out (or in many cases, axed at the last minute) whilst tossing together the same ol lineup that might’ve seem exciting back in 2010 – the freshly baked Wetware Festival, which will take place in the Lama Temple area starting from May 18th Thursday till Sunday May 21st at Tango (two floors) and School Bar, has conjured up, miraculously, a loaded lineup of international juggernauts. With acts that have amassed both critical and commercial fare in the electronic and alternative circuit – from Cass McCombs to Andy Scott to Stephen O’Malley (of SunO) to Time Hecker – it really is a music geek’s dream come true. Better yet, the organizers have also amassed an array of offbeat Chinese talent and some genuine hidden gems such as Shanghai’s Mirrors as well as Inner Mongolian avant-garde artist Hai Qing.
