Fête de la Musique is back in Beijing for its 5^th edition. Born in France in the 1980\’s, the «夏至音乐日» or « Fête de la musique » in French, has become a very special musical event celebrated every 21^th of June in various places around the world, with millions of people sharing their love for music on the same day. This year again, Beijing Fête de la Musique’s team of volunteers, supported by the French Embassy in Beijing, is inviting all music lovers to come enjoy two days of free live music on Sunday 19th and Tuesday 21^st of June.

For this 2016 edition of Fête de la Musique we have prepared not only one, but two days of free shows to give our public more choices and more time to discover a large variety of musical styles and artists at participating venues. 5 international bands, countless local bands and headliners such as Chui Wan, The Big Wave, Zulu, Steely Heart or Uncle Hu. Since its first edition in 2012, the Beijing Fête de la Musique has attracted over 5000 participants every year, always free of charge. With two dates this year and a special themed event in theatre 77, the Beijing Fête de la Musique team is expecting to attract a large and diverse crowd to our curated events. Full details below.

Let\’s Swing !

Sunday 19^th June 2016 (3pm-9pm): Swing themed event at Theater 77, Gulou.

Two days before the official date of the « Fête de la Musique» we will hold a Swing-themed event at Theater 77, an artistic open space close to Nanluoguxiang. In the beginning of the afternoon, before the concerts start, members of Beijing\’s swing dance community will join the venue, while instructors will teach some basic steps of swing dance to the public. After this introduction to the excitement of swing dancing, everyone will be invited to use their freshly learned skills and dance until the evening with 5 live bands that can swing hard!

Fête de la Musique, concerts galore!

Tuesday 21^th of june (8pm-late) : An evening of concert hopping in Gulou and Dongzhimen.

On the official date of the Fête de la Musique, as in previous editions of Fête de la Musique, we are inviting the public to experience an evening of concert-hopping between venues in the Gulou/Chaoyangmen area. This year\’s novelty is an electro workshop organized in Dada to discover fun and new ways to create digital music, the workshop is open to the public but with limited spots and will be taught by a team of professional artists and volunteers.
