Time to start getting pumped for one of the year’s most talked about events – Fete de la Musique – as always on June 21^st, which happens to be a holiday weekend Sunday this year. Based on the worldwide event started in France in the early 80s, Fete de la Musique aims to bring you as much music as possible over the course of a single day. And like that infectious pop song that refuses to leave your brain, this baby has spread like wildfire all across the world, becoming an annual tradition of sorts in just about every major city in the world. In 2012, the festival found its way into the heart of Beijingers and has been going strong since. Formed by a team of volunteers, collaborating with various institutes and sponsors, the event has stretched its arms wide and high, hosting over 30 venues, more than 60 concerts, and over 5,000 participants in the last year alone. And by the looks of it, they’re going even bigger this year, with even more shows, workshops, activities, and of course, music. While the three main venues will be DDC, hosting some of hip-hop’s finest, Mao Livehouse, bringing the rock and roll, and 77 Theatre (in Meridian Space) providing a francophile musical perspective, there will be countless other venues and shows throughout the day in Sanlitun, Qiamen, and of course, Gulou.
