Upcoming: 11th Beijing Punk Festival

While some have claimed that the music has taken a dip in quality recently, one particular scene that ceases to slow down is the punk scene – year after year kids are continuously getting their kicks rocking out to swift power chords, deep bass lines, and hard-hitting cries of rebellion. To catch a glimpse of the extent of punk’s stronghold on Beijing, Lei Jun of Misandao has put together a who’s who of the punk scene for a two day bash – this year marks the 11th Beijing Punk Festival (and rumor has it, possibility their last) – and it’s looks like a treat for those looking for some stripped down, fast-paced, hard edged rock n roll. Taking place at 798 Livehouse this Saturday and Sunday, August 30th and 31st, the organizers have gathered some of the city’s top brass, including Gum Bleed, D-Crash, Hell City and SUBS and matched them up with some of the up and comers including Zankou and Free Sex Shop – better still, they’ve invited some out of towners including the much sought after Wuhan-based SMZB, The Bricks out of Hangzhou, and Bazooka out of Taiwan. Cool beans. Get that mohawk you’ve always dreamed of and get ready for some hooting and hollering.
