On The Scene: School 02-08-2013

Got my punk on last weekend, starting first with School, and damn does it feel good in be at a show where people are actually moving their asses. Straight up intense, sloshed, household mosh pitting. With audiences who came to wheel out the pain and two bands more than willing to bring the noise and then some – might just be one of the most volatile performances I’ve seen in some time – with solid slightly demented sets from new kids on the block The Diders and ‘I’ll forgive the name cause you guys rock everytime I see ya’s’ Dr. Liu & The Human Centipede.

Clearly I need to up my punk intake. Just sex – all around. Click below for more mayhem in the name of music.

Round one – The Diders. Holy shit, am I glad I caught these kids. Just explosive – like ‘I wasn’t sure if their could make it through the whole set in one piece’ explosive. Even my Go Pro spazzed out and called it quits (no beautiful ski mountains for you buddy). And I swear that the bassist was looking to stab someone with his bass.

Dude managed to kick over the drums, lose his instrument, slam a girl into the ground after falling over the railing, and somehow was still able to get up, not throw a punch, and then plug his gear back in and finish a song. That, my friends, is commitment.

And The Diders are committed to making some of the dirtiest, rawest, no holds barrel music in town – um, can I get a fuck yeah.

Round two – School’s co-owner himself, Dr. Liu, coming out of the woodwork with his Human Centipede to show Beijing how it’s done. And how’s that. Like a ruthless homing missile intent on triggering a riot in the shortest amount of time.

Real sweethearts these guys. It’s so easy to get caught up in the mayhem though that you might just want to take them home. Especially if they have any more ‘pop songs’ up their sleeve like this one. Hehe.

Love the keyboard addition and just about everything. I’m not going to go out on a limb here and say that Dr. Liu are a quality band – but for are amount of freakish fun they unleashed upon School, they are a must see.

Kudos School for lighting a fire under our collective asses. And cheers to Stechosaurus for snapping some pics amidst the chaos – that’s him praying to the punk gods or something. One of those nights.
