On The Scene: Dos Kolegas 25-05-2012

Happy Birthday to Dos Kolegas who turned 7 last weekend. How did they celebrate? How you’d expect them to – with roast lamb, throwing out free drinks, and of course sweet music for the ears.

\"rb

Rolling Bowling’s stock is raising rather high in my book – while The Hellcats take their sweet time between shows, this rockabilly trio have been playing everywhere for the past couple months and it\’s showing.

They seem to have found their groove. They’ve never sounded better, and were eating off the crowds’ energy

– it’s hard to tell who’s having more fun – us or them. A great start to the festivities.

\"devils

A few pool games later, the growl and snarl of Joris could be heard from winthin – the Devils were getting started.

Speaking of bands who get around, The Devils at the Crossroad have been working it hard all year, and they have their set down to a pat now – for better or worse. But when you sound this entertainingly good, how can you not start raging like a madman.

Stoner rock lives on!

\"buyi

Not much left I can say about Buyi – they’re the fucking bee’s knees. Big riffs, that growl of a voice, and a pulsating beat that’s fast and furious. Witness these six minutes of rock hard, trance-like, muddy rock n’ roll.

If Dos Kolegas is the heart then Buyi is the blood that keeps it’s pumping. I don’t think there could be a more appropriate gift to the Liangmaqiao joint that has given me so much to look forward to every week of the year. A toast to Dos Kolegas – lucky number 7!!
