MV Weekly: Me and My Sandcastle, Cocoonics, Gao Jiafeng

Me and My Sandcastle – Blue Honey Boy

Me and My Sandcastle – led by the young talented singer-songwriter Xiao Liu – finds the perfect match for its pulpy lo-fi indie pop sound with the animated music video for single ‘Blue Honey Boy’ – which follows a slinky-necked donkey across the cosmos in Technicolor. Good fun.

Cocoonics – I want to write a song 想写首歌  (𝙛𝙩. 𝙇𝘼𝙏𝙀𝙉𝙄𝙉𝙀𝟲)

A bubbly irrelevant ode to writer’s block and the creative process – the latest track from electronic producer, singer, and artist Cocoonics – based out of Shanghai – released with Delivery Music and featuring Shanghai rapper LATENINE6 – is a delight. The music video – compiled of scenes over the multi-talented artist’s last year – is as DIY as they come – a fever dream of ideas, home videos, and inspiration.

Gao Jiafeng 高嘉丰 – Netflix

Shanghai-based musician Gao Jiafeng, known for his shapeshifting ‘’deconstructed pop’ continues subverting musical tropes with his latest ’Early Technologies’ – a deep dive into the kaleidoscopic world of hyperpop, indie rock, core, dream pop, hip hop, and electronica and where they all collide. The track ‘Netflix’ – a breakcore loving ode to the comforts of television and streaming in these tying times.
