MV Weekly: Gong Gong Gong, Zoogazer

Gong Gong Gong 工工工 – Ride Your Horse 骑你的马

Gong Gong Gong’s find the thematic counterpart to their ‘phantom rhythm’ – a martial arts expert by the name of Richard Tse in their eye-tingling, ear-grooving new MV ‘Ride The Horse’. As if battling a ghost opponent, the moves and expertise of the trained martial artist turn into a dance as we flow in and out of Beijing’s park, and the strange characters that populate them, finding a solidarity in the constant movement and flow of everyday life in Beijing that residents have come to ‘ride’ with. Righteous indeed.

A world of distorted daylight glare in the summer, a home without a fixed place, the city’s skyscrapers reflected against the hazy summer day – that’s the world that Xuzhou’s Zoogazer resides in. The jangly reverb-filled indie pop band has been wrapping audience’s around their finger since their 2018 debut and to celebrate their forthcoming album, the band collected footage from their journey since then. Grainy camcorder footage, endless road trips, humid summer days – it’s a trip down memory lane.
