C.S.B.Q – 未来的宝藏
The flames of punk shine bright with Changsha’s C.S.B.Q, whose music ‘acts as both a rallying call and a hell of a good time’. In preparation for their debut LP with Freedom Heron Records, the band dropped a new single and MV for their track Future Treasure. A far cry from the band’s unadulterated charging punk rock sound, it’s a stirring ballad on the idea of forging your own path and sticking by your beliefs in the age of materialism. Shot in black and white (by director Mei Erzhi) and following the working class people who make up the bustling metropolises across China, there’s a hopeful sheen to the track. Like their idol Don Quixote said: “Freedom is one of the most precious gifts heaven gave to men; the treasures under the earth and beneath the sea cannot compare to it; for freedom, as well as for honor, one can and should risk one’s life, while captivity, on the other hand, is the greatest evil that can befall men.
Railway Suicide Club 卧轨的火车 – Winter Swimming 冬泳
Fresh off their sprawling and ambitious LP (which hit plenty of year-end lists), Railway Suicide Train has dropped the haunting and beautifully shot music video for their track Winter Swimming. Directed with gusto by Wang Ke, it captures through captivating and often cryptic imagery, the smothering and often anxious mood that the band’s sound conjures up, which the director says was inspired by the year 2020. Traumatic memories, introspection, nervousness, long-term anxiety and short-term bursts of release – the theme of the body and its extension fills the screen. Transfixing stuff.
