And with the turning of the seasons, it looks like it’s gonna be a wet one for the next few days. So soak in the rain, laid back indoors, and indulge yourself with these music videos from some of Beijing’s rock scene veterans including folk rock outfit Buyi, nu metal faves Twisted Machine, and metalcore renegades Yaksa.

Let’s head into the lions’ den Twisted Machine, who have established themselves at the top of the metal roster in China all the while keeping their infectious brand of nu metal and hardcore intact. On ‘Crazy Farce’, the band tackles straight on China’s development and its consequences. Materialism, rampart pollution, and a society sick in the head – the band touches upon just about everything wrong with their country’s aggressive brand of development using stock footage as the band cuts loose in a dump facility. Surface level politics here, but can’t argue with that – surprised this video hasn’t even been censored. ‘Crazy Mather Facking Farce’!

Ningxian folk outfit faves Buyi, a band that’s been kicking it old school for over fifteen years continue to ride on the success of their revitalized, more pop-oriented 2013 release Departures, in the form of their latest music video for hit single ‘Rainbows’ which gives vocal duties to bassist Li Na, and she pulls it off quite well. Buyi might have lost some of their edge this time around, but they’ve more than made up for it with heart.

One of Beijing’s longest active metal outfits Yaksa, who have long abandoned their nu-metal paths, show off their new sound on ‘Undercurrents’. The metalcore band who recently jumped ship to label head behemoths Modern Sky, seem to be getting in touch with their more somber side with references to the band’s ethnic background and a surprisingly more mellowed out Hu Song, as they perform in a Yi’s mother home in the mountains of Yunnan. Alrighty then.
