Madhouse weekend at the drive-in theatre, where my brother managed to fall on his ass more times than me – but enough reminiscing – time to perk up those ears, widen those pupils, and kickstart your week with this latest batch of music videos from around Beijing and China, including local punks Gum Bleed, emo rockers Twinkle Star, electronic R&B artist Easy Mind, and Hangzhou ska darlings The Bricks. Check it.

Long-standing punk outfit Gum Bleed have released heaps of material over the past few years, as well as hit the road here and aboard more than once yet it won’t be till later this year, we get a taste of the band’s second full length album, entitled, City of the Heroes. The band is already collection presale orders at Musikid, including limited edition football jerseys which look absolutely dope, but till fall we’ve have to order this cute music video for one of their new singles – ‘Run Sheena Run’ – which shows Gum Bleed doing what they do best – tearing it up on scene. Very appropriately old school, grainy, and lo-fi – can’t wait to hear more.

Hangzhou ska outfit The Bricks, out of breezy Hangzhou, continue to spread the good word after releasing their stellar latest, Juncture Fugue, with this brand spanking new music video for that album’s closer ‘Far On the Other Side of the River’, which adapts a old war-time Soviet tale of returning to your loved one – loving the production on these. They’re shooting high with these videos and look like their having loads of fun doing so. Cinematic, inventive, and utterly charming, I’m digging the vision of those kids. Expecting great things out of The Bricks.

To promote the release of their latest EP, Don’t Look Back, which (as I mentioned last week) New Pants’ bassist Zhao Meng on vocals, emo power pop outfit Twinkle Star, has released this concert compilation centered around that EP’s middle track ‘Summer Never End’. It’s nice seeing the different settings the band has played in – MIDI, Strawberry, studios, dingier venues – shows how much the band has come into their own since playing under the name Alt Senior at Modern Sky’s mini stage back in 2010. Time flies by and according to the shameless power pop anthem, we are very much ‘young and invincible’. Go Pro guitar cam for the win!!!

If you’ve ever have wasted countless hours reading douban event listings (oh wait) then you’ve come across Easy Mind, the suave folk/electronic artist who frequents Blue Stream Bar and School. And if you ever followed through on that curiosity you’d find that the young artist has built quite the catalogue of work over the past few years (hint: it’s staggering) and it’s not too shabby. Really chill downtempo kinda jams. And while this latest music video for ‘Spirit Dance Song’, from the artists’ latest release, is a far cry from most of his output, it definitely makes me wanna high five the dude for totally sticking to his guns. Pimp indeed.
