MV Monday: Festival Recap

You all make it out alive? Survived the gales, sandy mosh pits, and Maggie Cheung? Looking to relive the nightmare? I was too lazy, pissed, preoccupied (pick any adjective) to film at either MIDI or Strawberry and I’ll share my two cents on those soon enough, but lucky enough videos have been popping up left and right from the three day holiday, including bits and pieces from Strawberry, MIDI, and DMC one day bash. So take a peek as to what went down this past Mayday Holiday.

I will say this about Strawberry – they killed it sound-wise and video-wise, especially on the main stage. The Geek Shoot Jack crew was there absolutely murdering it with their gear, most notably the steadi-cam – editing on the fly and throwing it up on the big screens – and it looked beautiful. Sexy cameras, nice moves simply elevating some bombastic performances – particularly from Second Hand Rose. There are a slew of these online at LeTV, including Explosions in the Sky, Re-Tros, and more.

While MIDI doesn’t have the resources or coordination to pull off what Geek Shoot Jack did, videos have been popping up from spectators showcasing MIDI’s best asset – it’s enormous eager to get down and dirty crowds. Flares, wall of deaths, joyous crowd surfing – there was no shortage of that at MIDI – just look at these kids. A slew of videos are slowly making their way online – check it. Punk haven DMC had a bash of its own last way, aptly titled Strawberry Fucktival, which as one may have guessed turned into an absolute shitshow according to this nicely put together video showcasing the afternoon into evening punk hoedown. Looks like it was a blast – and nice substitute for the clusterfuck that were the other two. But seriously guys, beer chugging skills could use for work. Can’t wait to get back to DMC this summer.
