MV Monday: Chaos Xinxiang, Xiao Ou x Alienkey, Proximity Butterfly, Horse Radio

Alrightyyyyyy, hopefully I’m on a plane back to good ol’ Beijing. Have already too much on my plate upon return so figured I figured I might as well subdue you music fiends out there with some vids – including a new music video from Xiao Ou and Alienkey, a short doc on recently deceased Xinxiang venue Subark, a live video from new hot shot Inner Mongolians Horse Radio, and a new track (perhaps) from Chengdu rock heads Proximity Butterfly. Enjoy.

More hip hop coming out of Beijing. And I couldn’t be happier. To be honest, I haven’t had a chance to fully view this video (the internet goes both ways folks) but it’s involves two dudes with serious skills. Norwegian rapper Eirik Okkenhaug aka Xiao Ou joins itsogoo member Alienkey for their latest Ordinary People ‘老百姓 . It continues Xiao Ou’s lure of/with Beijing street life, and that is all types of awesome if you’re like me – excited to see your hood shown in all it’s ‘moving image’ glory.

One of my best performances I saw last year was Chengdu based psychedelic indie rock outfit Proximity Butterfly – genuine professionals who are deserved their due. Lead vocalist Joshua C. Love posted this video last week, which (perhaps) gives us a taste of their latest work which has been teasing the scene for the last year. The song is \’Bliss\’. Considered me excited.

Videographer, singer, punk champion Shanzhai Laowai (Darryl Pestilence) just posted this little lo-fi documentary highlight legendary Xinxiang venue Subark (Arklivehouse) which met its demise this fall. The ‘light-hearted’ piece highlights Beijing punk bands The Diders and Shochu Legio and Xinxiang, Henan province-based punk band Pumpkins as well as fellow Xinxiang post-punks The Fallacy. Expect some skin and the last ruminates of one of China’s unknown music havens.

I did just honor Inner Mongolian trope Horse Radio with being one of the top bands of the year. Sooooo it’s only appropriate that give them a little MV Monday love. This recorded live set is from Mako Livehouse, as apart of the Octo Series – a series I’m been geeking out about, as it highlights some of China’s most intriguing ethnic bands out there. They even have a slew of live recordings, audio and visual on xiami and douban worth digging into. Very cool stuff they’re doing. Kudos.
