Prolific noise enthusiast, Dee, who’s been busy as ever this year, hosted some of Shanghai’s most rambunctious characters in the art, noise, and experimental scene at fRUITYSPACE – a hodgepodge of wild, unhinged, off the cusp ‘sounds’. After going through the motions of catching Beijing bands work the stages across Gulou, many quite frankly, going through the motions themselves, it was a breathe of fresh air to be at a noise show, where nothing is taken for granted, boundaries are tested, and the predictable gets it silly ass slapped. From the contact mic swallowing act of Ganzfield Lab (aka Da Xiao), to the psychedelic madcap meltdown of drummer A Xiang, singer Rin, Gael on synths, and Acid on guitar (who later gave an apt low key drone-filled guitar performance), further electronic (and contact mic) tomfoolery from Zhu Songjie, and finally a very showman performance from the mad magician himself, Dee, who went about finding ways to take revenge on an apple, both physically and musically. Nothing like a little bit of noise to get those juices flowing again.
