Over the summer, a quaint little courtyard and café by the name of Yichang Cafe (inside the space 27 Yuan) started testing the waters in the small venue business, throwing shows in the early weekend evenings. And after attending one of those gigs last weekend, it’s safe there’s a new home for folk and lo-fi tunes. Ethereal indie pop singer-songwriter Yuan Yuan gave a subdued, subtly stirring performance with the accompaniment of beatbox phenomenon Long Long (the two also perform together in the otherworldly world music trope No Future) and friend Xiao Yu. No roaring encores, no show stopping sing-a-longs, simply an intimate evening of music from some undeniably talented folks. Props to Yichang Café for hosting the event – and can’t wait to seethe events they throw in the future.
