Milo gets down to business in Beijing! US pop-punk pioneers The Descendents are another one of those holy grails band – a must see live act for punk purists and a hell of a catch for China. The band who formed in 1977, have been at the forefront of the west coast hardcore punk movement since their humble beginnings – their influences can be found in some much of my generation’s most sought after bands like Green Day and Blink 182. Direct, in your face, spontaneous, defiant, fast, loose, and most of all fun, they’re a band whose presence is made immediately known and their set last weekend at Mao Livehouse did not disappoint as the band charged through one single after other – whipping the crowd into a frenzy that ceased to slow down. Support for the evening came in the form of Shanghai’s own punk torch bearers – the ever-riotous Round Eye, and Beijing’s Hang Nail, who continue to impress with their no holds barrel brand of street punk.
