Barrel rolled down the rabbit hole last week in turns of gigging -kicking off with the tsunami of noise and face melting musicality that was electro prog outfit The All Seeing Hand, out of New Zealand, who were kicking off their China tour courtesy of Chengdu based promoter Kiwese. These three were a cracker barrel of energy, a schizoid industrial noisecore outfit with a heavy dose of shamanism (the lead picked up some throat singing on his travels) that left nothing on the table. Joining them were tourmates E/N/T dressed in what I can only assume was cosplay for one of the Playing Cards from Alice in Wonderland, dropping some cavernous dark ambience, and Kiwese head honcho Kaishandao keeping the atmosphere kinetic and just slightly off-kilter in the best possible way. Opening were Beijing’s own Not in Catalog, who are aging like fine wine to me, and all really nailing down some nice jams. A pretty rambunctious evening of sounds all around and proof again that New Zealand is harboring some serious talent.
