798-based M WOODS is known for curating art, but this year’s FAT Musical Festival proved that they’re equally great at creating music lineups.  Some of Beijing’s best underground bands like Macondø and SNSOS played on Friday night, which was probably the first time that anyone has ever moshed inside the museum.  The combination of killer solos from Macondø’s guitar player, Scott, with skillful adjustments from Gerald’s (their keyboard player) laptop attracted a crowd begging for photos once the band got off stage.  The space-y, psychedelic introductions to their rock songs paired nicely with the DJ set from Nomercy + Fencha that came after.  Without getting too technical about the equipment, Nomercy + Fencha‘s dance music kept everyone vibing until the end of the night.  All sets included projections from an impressive lighting system, and being able to roam through the current Paul McCarthy exhibit was a good touch. While M WOODS didn’t exactly prepare for the space to get so hot and sweaty–  Michael, if you’re reading this, invest in some air-conditioning for the museum– the festival was a successful way to start the summer season.  Judging by the young and hip crowd that M WOODS attracts, be sure to stop by soon to add to your cool factor!
