Avant-garde electro-folk project Bye Bye Fish is essentially what happens to a punk band when they want to spice up their sex life. And I mean that as a compliment. Formed by the core members of beloved punk outfit SUBS – Bye Bye Fish showed off their intergalactic soundscapes and whimsical and sometimes downright surreal tunes at M Woods last week for a special one-off showcase (and conference closer). Hypnotic, enchanting and sometimes menacing, they’ve been honing their sound over the past year and I gotta say – it’s pretty freaking rad. It keeps you on your toes – both from its unpredictable nature and it’s innate ability to make you dance, while at the same time captivating you with Wu Hao’s slick guitar skills and Kang Mao’s striking voice (used to quite a different degree here). The duo is preparing to hit up Korea next week for some gigs and festival outings, so if you happen to be in Seoul or Busan, do make your way out to see them.
