Xie Yugang 谢玉岗 x Serge Teyssot-Gay – Isolation Forest 孤立森林
Xie Yugang, frontman of Dalian post-rock benemoths Wang Wen, teamed up with renowned French guitarist Serge Teyssot-Gay for The Nano World – an ambient wonderland that finds the two musical geniuses intertwining their musical worlds. The exquisite and otherworldly single ‘Isolation Forest’ gets the music video treatment – filmmaker Thomas Rabillon turns a winter wonderland into a grainy blur of memories and transporting images both mundane and mysterious, alluring and off-putting.
Straight Fire Gang 直火帮– Baoshifu 鲍师傅
Straight Fire Gang, made up of Feezy, XZT, and Ziiga – a motely crew of Shanghai and Hangzhou natives who studied abroad in the US, hit their stride this year with a packed out China tour following the release of their well regarded LP Climbing the Wall. The trio released the appropriately lo-fi music video for their single ‘Baoshifu’ where the three rap highly of you guessed it, the extremely popular Chinese pastry shop known for their pork floss cakes.
