Concert wranglers Split Works, have been blazing trails in this last quarter of the year – first, with the spirited Echo Park festival held in Shanghai, and now a slew of performances from internationally acclaimed artists of the moment. For the occasion, the promoters invited disco-tech revisionist Neon Indian, whose synth-heavy, dreamy disco pop was received enthusiastically by hordes of young blooded Beijingers at Yugong Yishan. From the music, to the lighting, to the visual pop art, the band effortlessly turned the joint into a dancehall straight out of the 80s. Infectious gloss that goes down like soda pop.

Besides the electric performance from the American outfit, Split Works gave audiences a first taste of the sounds of L.O.B.I – the latest electronic project from Snapline’s Xi Chen and P.K. 14’s Xu Bo – which despite technical mishaps and sloppy transitioning – proved to have a sound that’s unique, vigorous, and fulfilling. Serious potential and a duo I hope to see more of again in the near future. Check out more pics and vids from the two bands below.
