MV Weekly: YEHAIYAHAN, Endless White

YEHAIYAHAN – Faraway Roots

Last spring Shanghai singer and producer YEHAIYAHAN, formerly known as ChaCha, traveled to the New York and SXSW, just as the artist was veering into a new phase in her carrier (including ridding herself of her old alias). The Guizhou born musician has over time used music as a gate to open her up to a bigger, wider world and now her desire to trace back her upbringing, culture and ‘faraway roots’ is forcing her to confront her identity. Directed by Gerhan, it’s a lovely piece of filmmaking, one that explores how one can know themselves better by venturing further out and opening yourself up to strangers and new experiences.

Endless White 白百 – 无限的白到透明

Xi’an’s Endless White has over the years become one of the shoegaze scene’s spotlight bands. They make good last year on the hype with their exceptional debut off of Ruby Eyes Records – chock full of wispy vocals, jangly guitar work and sublime walls of sound that engulfs you. Since then the band has been on a whirlwind tour of China, playing festivals, and keeping busy their growing fanbase. Half tour documentary, half band retrospective, half music video, the short documentary looks to shed light on the band’s growth and feelings since that debut came back one year back.
